In spring, when finally the last patches of snow disappear and the green alpine pastures of the Seetaler Alps turn red and pink it is the best time to discover this area. From Judenburg it takes you about 30 min by car to the foot of the Eastern Alps with their great hiking trails.
The Youth & Family Guesthouse in Judenburg is ideal for hikers. Situated in the center of the old city of Judenburg, the guesthouse is located in a former Jesuit monastery and surrounded by a beautiful park. The frescos of the hallways still echo the history of this building. The newly refurbished rooms with private bathrooms, the great playground in the park and the historic atmosphere make this guesthouse a great place for your stay in this area.
Our recommendation for hikers: the Zirbitzkogel
Drive from Judenburg to the parking lot of the Winterleitenhütte (1782 m altitude). From here you follow the path No. 308 to the Winterleiten lakes and continue on the ‘Schreiber Steig’ up to the top of the Zirbitzkogel. You take the same way back or you continue your hike over the ‘Scharfe Eck’. This trail offers spectacular views at the surrounding mountains, but be careful, it is not as easy to walk.
Time: about 4.5-5 hours
