If you choose the family friendly Mariazellerland for your next vacation, our two Youth & Family Guesthouses in St. Sebastian are perfect for your stay. The guesthouse Sigmundsberg is equipped with an indoor swimming pool including a virtual dolphinarium, a sauna, a bowling lane, a soccer field and a volleyball court. People with disabilities especially will enjoy the swimming pool accessible for disabled people and the special training program put together by our trainer for disabled people, Ronald Vala. The guesthouse St. Sebastian is especially suited for very active guests. The adjacent sports center offers tennis, squash (racquetball), soccer, basketball, beach volleyball, indoor climbing, and much more. The facilities of both guesthouses are open to our clients for low fees. Hikers thus are not only able to enjoy the wonderful surroundings of Mariazell but also relax in the sauna and the swimming pool or use our great sporting facilities.
Our recommendation for hikers: a hike through the wild and romantic Ötschergräben.
You take the Mariazeller train to Wienerbruck and take the path to the lake. At the end of the lake turn left and continue on the small trail through a romantic canyon until you reach the waterfall (Lassingfall). This waterfall is 90 m high and especially impressive after rainy days due to an increased amount of water rushing down the river. You continue on the left bank walking down to the bottom of the canyon and the power station in Stierwaschboden. From here you go left along the Erlach river to the entrance of the Ötschergräben. Now you follow the wild Ötscher river to the Ötscherhias, a small inn that offers refreshments and traditional dishes. After a relaxing break you follow a small side valley up to the Ötscher street and pass by the Erlaufklause lake to Mitterbach. Take the Mariazeller Bahn to return to Mariazell.
